It started as a bit of an accident. David Garcia moved to San Francisco to start an Americana rock band and fell into an education working with the top post, VFX and animation artists of the day at the Academy of Art College. It was here, getting the run of the film department's camera & lighting gear and the animation department's SGI network that he made a discovery.
Raised by a painter and photographer, David was drawn to visual art and animation at a very young age. He made his first animations and claymations under the tutelage of John Iwerks, the grandson of the legendary Ub Iwerks.
But seeing the long, lonely hours his father spent in his studio Garcia gravitated more towards the social and storytelling arts of live theater and music. He pursued theater throughout his youth and ultimately trained on a full ride scholarship at Boston University School for the arts, one of the US's top classical conservatories.
All these various, seemingly homeless skills (along with having logged a seriously unhealthy amount of time in dark cinemas) came together for him when he wandered haphazardly into the film business. Garcia quickly discovered had all the ingredients he needed to tell compelling stories with moving pictures and sound within a frame. In the intervening years he's directed and shot countless successful broadcast campaigns. Through his production and post company, Halflife*, he's also served as effective New Mexico Post Supervisor for studios such as Sony Television, Netflix, Warner Television and AMC and worked as a colorist and Flame finishing artist on scores of commercials and indie features.
